Hier leggen we uit waar je over na moet denken als je deze beslissing voor jouw proces maakt. <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De vraag contractproductie of pilot plant komt meestal naar boven zodra het labwerk klaar is. Je proces werkt in het lab, en nu heb je materiaal of data nodig op grotere schaal. Besteed je dit uit aan een contractproductie, of bouw je de pilotplant zelf? Er zijn 5 vragen die je aan je team kan stellen om deze keuze te maken.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1. Productievolume of procesleren?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Begin met je einddoel.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wil je <strong>productievolume<\/strong>? Dan kan contractproductie goed werken, zonder dat je kapitaal vastzet in een fabriek. Een contractproducent kan ook samples leveren voor offtake gesprekken of vroege omzet. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wil je juist<strong> leren<\/strong>? Dan heb je de procesdata nodig om een full-scale fabriek te ontwerpen. Door je eigen pilot plant te draaien krijg je meer data om van te leren, omdat je de ruimte hebt om te experimenteren. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>2. Kant-en-klare technologie of een nieuw proces?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standaardapparatuur en unit operations zijn gemakkelijk over te nemen door een toller of contractproducent, dus kant-en-klare technologie past daar goed bij. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Een nieuw of sterk ge\u00efntegreerd proces, zoals vaak voorkomt bij circulaire chemie en fermentatie, past vaak niet op een bestaande fabriek. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/scaling-up-processes-from-pilot-plant-stage-keys-irach-taraporewala\">E\u00e9n gedocumenteerde biotech case<\/a> (Case Study 3, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/irachtaraporewala\/\">Irach Taraporewala<\/a>) ging over een gespecialiseerd productieproces waarvoor kostbare aanpassingen aan de fabriek van een contractproducent nodig zouden zijn geweest, waardoor het bedrijf uiteindelijk zelf ging bouwen. Herken je jouw proces hierin, dan heb je waarschijnlijk eerder je eigen pilot plant nodig dan gepland. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>3. Vast kapitaal of flexibele uitgaven?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contractproductie verandert een grote initi\u00eble CAPEX in betaal-terwijl-je-verdiend OPEX, waardoor je flexibel blijft als de markt of de technologie verandert. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Je eigen pilot is een vaste verplichting die geld blijft kosten, ook als hij stilstaat: denk aan personeel, utilities en onderhoud. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De eerlijke vergelijking is niet de prijs op papier, maar de totale kosten over de levensduur van het product, inclusief de tijd die je jezelf geeft en het kapitaal dat vrijkomt voor de technologie zelf.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>4. In welke TRL fase zit je?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Outsourcen of het delen van faciliteiten in vroege TRL fases is meestal de goedkopere manier om risico te verlagen. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later, zodra je proces en productievolumes het kapitaal rechtvaardigen, is het slim om assets in-house te gaan brengen. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het helpt om vooraf, als onderdeel van je <a href=\"https:\/\/transitionhero.nl\/nl\/scale-up-services\/\">scale-up roadmap<\/a>, te bepalen wanneer dat omslagpunt bereikt is, zodat je die keuze niet onder druk hoeft te maken.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>5. Wat is je eindproduct?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heb je materiaal nodig om een markt te bewijzen? Dan is contractproductie meestal de minder risicovolle, goedkopere optie. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is de pilotplant zelf je product, oftewel de data en operationele ervaring die je opdoet door hem te draaien, dan is zelf bouwen wat je daar brengt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Alle vijf factoren samen afwegen<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Geen van deze vijf vragen bepaalt de uitkomst alleen. In de praktijk neigen de meeste teams naar contractproductie, hun eigen pilot, of een combinatie van beide, zodra ze zien hoe de antwoorden zich verhouden.
