Coca-Cola Dongen CO2 Neutral in 2023!

Scope TransitionHERO

Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) aims to have its factory in Dongen, the Netherlands, completely CO2 neutral by 2023 as part of their sustainability strategy. Becoming CO2 neutral would require our client to perform a thorough overhaul of the energy system of their local plant. The factory is responsible for the production of 85% of soft drinks sold on the Dutch market and this move would save about 7,600 tons of CO2 emissions annually. 

Together with CCEP, TransitionHERO executed the study on how to make the plant in Dongen CO2 neutral, focusing on replacing the steam boilers and changing the steam network to a hot water grid. Research was done on all the heat and cold consumers and on how to combine them in a smart way. The challenge is that this major change needs to be executed with minimum downtime of the plant. 

Instead of only looking at energy profiles, TransitionHERO also understands the process steps in making soft drinks and works with the local team to ensure a feasible design from an operational point of view. Together, we have selected the best steps towards becoming CO2 neutral and as a result, there is commitment to work on a successful implementation.
